Roland G. Rodine, 86, of Polk, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Friday, November 14, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at Evangelical Free Church in Polk with Reverend Dick Bauer and Reverend Willis Pauls officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, from 5-7 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in the Swede Plain Cemetery near Polk.
Roland was born on April 12, 1922 near Polk, Nebraska to Wilmer C. and Anna E. (Glad) Rodine. He grew up in the Polk area and attended school there. He graduated from Polk High School in 1939.
He was united in marriage to Norma C. Lind on April 21, 1946 at Norma’s home near Polk. The couple lived a mile east of the family farm, and in 1957 they moved to the home place. Roland farmed and raised cattle his entire life. In 1987, they moved into Polk, but Roland still went to the farm everyday.
Roland was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Free Church in Polk. He truly enjoyed his cattle and every aspect of farming. He loved his family and his church, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. Roland enjoyed music and singing to his grandchildren, and would walk home from church most Sunday’s with a grandchild by his side.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Norma Rodine, of Polk, NE, a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Brenda Rodine of Polk, NE, two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Alfred L’Heureux of Polk, NE; and Donna and Michael Rhoades of Webster City, IA, ten grandchildren, Jeremy and Ginger L’Heureux of Hanford, CA; Jeff and Jaime L’Heureux of North Liberty, IA; Jacquelin L’Heureux of Iowa City, IA; Matthew and Wendy Rhoades of Alexandria, VA; Emily Rhoades of Omaha, NE; Allison Rhoades of Des Moines, IA; Mikayla Rhoades of Webster City, IA; Nicholas Rodine of Polk, NE; Drew Rodine of Polk, NE; and Derek Rodine of Polk, NE; one great-grandson, Roland L’Heureux of Hanford, CA, and his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Gene Jones of Apple Valley, MN.
His parents preceded him in death.
